Celestial Armillary Brass Astrology Zodiac Sphere A PARIS Chez G. Gobille a P Ache Royal
Measures approximately 7.25" x 11" base is 5.5"
I had wondered about what I thought were misspelled words where "v" was used in place of "u". (Taurus reads Trvrvs)
According to dictionary.com, the reason is history. Most buildings that encompass Roman-style architecture use the Latin alphabet, which only had 23 letters at one time, not including the letter U.
The “U” sound still existed, but it was represented with the letter V.
Outer Rim is engraved with "Rouen Vienne", "Samos Islc Xaintes", "Tripoly Zaba Isle", Trapeze Zamora", Tollon Trente", and Verone Vtrecht" with a series of numbers.
Also engraved on the ring is "A PARIS Chez G. Gobille a P Ache Royalle"
Middle ring is marked with Zodiac sign images and name
