. This famous Westmoreland Pattern was started in 1921, the year that King Tut's tomb was discovered in Egypt by Professor Howard Carter, hence the "Lotus" Design. This glassware line was made on and off for over 60 years, and was a customer favorite because of its color and shape, until Westmoreland closed for good in 1984. This bowl was from the early period because it does NOT have any Westmoreland insignia on its bottom, which was added later during the 1920s, making it somewhere between 80 and 99 years old. This glass bowl comes from a bye-gone era when American manufacturing was an "art", as can be seen from the gorgeously designed Westmoreland Glass Co. "Lotus Flower Petals/Leaves. It probably took about 6-8 glassmakers to make these bowls, from heating up the sand and color ingredients to the proper temperature, to pressing the bowl into the mold, and then "sanitizing the glass" by dunking into the hot acid, and then finally rinsing off with hot water. It actually measures 9 1/4 inches across (officially called 9 inches) and stands almost 4 inches tall, with a base diameter of about 5 inches. Besides being large, the bowl is also heavy, measuring about 3 pounds in weight. Since it was purchased from an old estate sale on Long Island and was pre-owned, it was used for many years, which accounts for the many tiny scratches inside the bowl, and a few outside. Otherwise the bowl is in perfect condition with no
chips, fleabites, cracks, stains, cloudiness, or repairs anywhere on the bowl except for those scratches already mentioned above, as can be seen in the last 2 photographs. It comes from a smoke-free home. I only accept PayPal, and never charge extra for packaging and handling. Shipping and Insurance by USPS Rate Priority Mail costs .85.
